The 2020 Season
We all dream of what could have been….  This would have been a great one. A potential record year great year for the West Grey Rampage:  With new families and players excited to join lacrosse; Some experience under our belts; Player registrations up 63%; New coaches, volunteers, and sponsors; and now three arenas to play out of!

Last year we trialed our first off-season clinics with good turnouts and then surpassed our expectations for Try Lacrosse this year. We were just about to offer a community coaching clinic and expand our House League program and order new jerseys for 3 new teams! Then, it  happened.  Pause.

First, our first priority is that everyone is safe-we hope everyone is well. We miss lacrosse and everything that comes with it.  We want to thank you for your patience while we process these changes, dealing and waiting for items out of our control and to make decisions for our club refunds for the 2020 season and apologize for any delay in communicating a plan as these are unprecedented times.

We have been waiting on direction and clarification from the OLA before processing refunds.  Part of this delay is due to the fact that the OLA has not cancelled the season for all of Ontario and have been hopeful for some return to play guidelines, which is delayed again (this time until June 15, 2020).  However, our Zone came to the consensus to cancel the regular season almost a month ago.  As we all tread on new ground it brings up challenges and tough decisions.

The OLA put in process a change this year whereas clubs are charged a bulk of fees right at registration.  These fees are upwards of 30$ per player with OLA fees that include insurance, magazine and registration fee, as well as a Sportzsoft fee and credit card fees. Absorbing these costs would surpass $4,700.  Annual operational costs will also add to the losses this year. With only 1 full year running a rep program, we simply do not have the capital to absorb all these costs.

We have scrutinized our finances to ensure that we do what is right for our members not only for what would have been this season, but also so that we can continue to offer lacrosse for future seasons. The result of that scrutiny is that we need to offset the above fees by applying a 25$ administrative fee for each registered player, up to a maximum of 2 admin fees for families with multiple registrations.  All refunds will be processed by cheque and mailed in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience as we work through these.  Please direct any questions to westgreyminorlacrosse@gmail.com.

We will move forward together, protecting each other and  dreaming for life to return to what we once knew. Our executive are prepared to work on finding sponsors for future seasons but realize many businesses have also been hit hard by the pandemic.  We would like to take the opportunity to thank previous and new sponsors as well. They will need our communities support more than ever. Please visit the sponsor page of the website and reach out to these businesses.  We will continue to review fundraising opportunities as well as offer some apparel later in the year and will appreciate everyone’s support in taking advantage of these ways to support the West Grey Rampage. Until then, we encourage players to keep playing lacrosse and keep their stick in their hands!
