Stayner Hitman Spring Showdown
The West Grey Rampage competed in the Stayner Hitman Spring Showdown over the June 7th weekend.
The opening game was Friday afternoon against Midland; Midland opened the scoring to take the early lead. Rampages Bentley Dietz and Gavin Johns each with a goal put their team ahead 2 to 1. Midland came back with two unanswered goals to finish the first period ahead 3 to 2. The second period saw a back-and-forth scoring match for both teams; Johns tying the game at three on the powerplay. Midland taking the one goal lead back, while Nixon Brown found the back of the net to tie the game at four a piece to finish the second period. With both teams looking to start the tournament in the win column, this first game was a big one. Midland went ahead 5 to 4, not long after Gavin Johns scored his third of the game to tie the game at five. Midland answered back quickly deflating the Rampage to take the lead once again. Under five to play Midland took a two-goal lead. With seconds left in the game Bentley Deitz brought his team within one but ultimately the West Grey Rampage ran out of time and fell 7 to 6 to Midland. Saturday morning the Rampage were up against a strong Hamilton team. Hamilton came ready to play and took a commanding 5 to 0 lead after the first period. Gavin Johns and Nixon Brown both scored a goal in the second, but the Rampage still were behind 11 to 2 after two. Hamilton would add three more goals to their total along with Brown scoring his second of the game, Rampage would lose 14 to 3 against Hamilton. The Rampage found themselves with a very late game to finish their tournament appearance on Saturday night against Orilla. Nixon Brown had a pair of goals in the first period to give his team a 2 to 0 after the first period. Brown scored the only goal in the second to complete his hat trick. Blake Green scored twice in the third and the West Grey Rampage won 5 to 0 against Orilla. Tatum Roberts earned a shutout for his efforts in Game 3.
